Traditions.

Today we talked about traditions in church. We started with what does tradition mean "to hand down" or "to hand over." So now that we know what it means do we have any traditions we do as a family? Here is one that we do.
For those of you who don't know Rob and I had a baby that we lost, our first year our marriage. His name is Conner Edward Hawley. Will every year we buy presents for a boy of Conner age if he would of lived. Last year Tanner picked out the toy witch gave us the perfected opportunity to explain he has a Big Brother in heaven.
I listened to other traditions to see if I could pick up some more. Here some of them I liked.

1-Each year the whole family brings 20 pictures of their family throw the last year and make a pictures or a video show.
2-One family has a Daughters Day this day happens in Aug. and is celebrated just like Mothers days. I really think that I would like to do that. I would also like to have a Boy day as well.
3-I can remember this one. When I was growing up we got to chose our dinner on our Birthday.
4-Having Family home evenings is a great tradition. Saying your prays together is another one.
5-I like this one but not for the obvious reason. One family would eat there Sunday meals about 2:00 and then eat Popcorn and candy the rest of Sunday.
After she told her tradition she then explain the reason why. Her mom and dad said the kids hated Sunday and would always complain. So the parents took there problem to the Lord and this is what they came up with. (Genius)

I would like to start some more traditions. So please share your traditions.

Here is one more Tradition we started, On the first day of spring I let the kids paint a bird house and then give it to some one. Last year we gave them to the people that bought our house. This year we gave them to Nana and Grandpa.

  1. I too am interested in collecting and promoting traditions. Traditions are an important part of our lives and a source of wonderful memories. I created a website, Cafe Traditions, to encourage the exchange of traditions. I would love if you would share some of your traditions. Painting the birdhouses is a great spring tradition. Please visit the site and share your ideas, www.cafetraditions.com. I'm sure you'll find a variety of new traditions that you might want to introduce into your family as well. Thank you.

  2. A lot of our traditions are based around holidays, but we always "do something fun" with Daddy on his day off. Every night, we read scriptures, an article from the friend or a book (or all 3), then we say prayers and give eachother kisses & say "I love you". And every night I sing the boys a lullaby. That's probably my favorite tradition is our bedtime routine. Simple, but memorable.
